My Dearest Rebekah
My dearest Rebekah,
Well, today your mother and I found out that you were a girl, and I could not be more excited. It is still very surreal to me that you are going to be my daughter in less than five months. Will I be ready? Will I be a good dad? I'm not sure any man is ever fully ready to be the father of a daughter. But through Jesus Christ, I know that I will be a Godly father for you. Just as through Jesus, I am able to be a Godly husband for your mother.
I have caught myself all day wondering what you will look like. Will you have my dark black hair, or your mother's beautiful blonde locks? Will you have my dark brown eyes, or her bright blue eyes? I also stop and wonder what gifts God will bless you with. Will you have the gift of compassion, as your mother does? Is music going to be a talent of yours? Sports? Theater? Could it be that you are already on your way to being a camp counselor at URC? More than anything, I hope that your mom and I will bring you up in the ways of the Lord, so that when you grow, you will not stray from them

When your mother and I got married we exchanged vows. Today I would like to do the same with you (only you won't be able to respond because you are still in your mom's womb). Here are my vows to you, my dearest Rebekah Ann:
- I vow to teach you about God's love.
- I vow to show you everyday how much I love you.
- I vow to tell you as often as I can that you are beautiful, so when someone tries to tell you otherwise, you will know the truth.
- I vow to love your mother unconditionally, so you will have an example of how a real man treats a woman.
- I vow to protect you from any harm, provide for your every need, and defend your honor at a moments notice.
- And lastly, I vow to demonstrate to you what a man of God looks like, so that you will know what to look for when he appears.
-Daddy
