Cakes come with recipes. Origami has a detailed step by step process. And your baby bed included instructions (although they were wrong). Most people wish that life came with in depth instructions. I look at all of these books, magazines, and online guides for being a father, and can't help but wonder what dads did before all this "help". I'm sure some just winged it, while most others learned from their fathers. I know that there will be times that I look to other men for advice on how to handle difficult situations. And there will be times that I'll have to learn on the fly. I have already read a few books on how to be a good dad and husband. But, I feel like the best manual is Scripture. God's own advice and guidance written down for us to follow step by step.
Why does it seem, then, like life is void of any real instructions? Why do so many people add too much salt to their brownies? Paper swans turned into balled up messes? Ten minute assemblies becoming frustrated all day events? My daughter, it is because we simple forget to read and follow the instruction book. For reasons that are too many to mention in this letter. Pride. Arrogance. Denial. All excuses we use for trying to do things on our own.
I have learned in my life that doing things on our own never works out. What appears to be immediate success is often followed by an impending failure. It was in my rock bottom that I realized God's way is the only way worth traveling. I pray that you never have to venture down the wrong path to realize that the light of Christ shines much brighter than our own, and lights our path so we can see where we are going. It is my hope that through my following of the Lord's way, you will in turn know the heavenly instructions God has already written down for you. He has already taught me so much about being the husband I am called to be, and I know He will teach me to be the father I have been called to be.
You are kicking so much these days my beautiful little girl. Only about nine more weeks till you are in my arms! Your baby bed has been put together. Your room is being organized. And you are being prayed over constantly. I can't wait to meet you. Keep growing healthy and strong my sweet daughter, and always know that I love you very much.

Life begins at Life
My Dearest Rebekah,
You are a child of God, and you are alive.
You are a child of God, and you are alive.
Since the beginning of time, He has known you.
He loves you, cares for you, and adores you.
God breathed life in you
You have a loving mother, and you are alive.
She feels you move, kick, and stretch.
Protection and nourishment are given to you each day.
Love creates life in you.
You are my daughter, and you are alive.
Prayers and scripture are spoken, and you hear.
Thoughts of who you will become are always on my mind.
Faithfulness shines life in you.
Today is here, and you are alive.
Thank God always for life.
Share joy to all around you.
Life does not begin at birth. Life begins at Life.
You are almost in my arms. With each passing day, I grow more and more excited about meeting you. Keep growing strong and healthy my beautiful daughter. And always know that I love you so much!!!
